My Chat with the Nets
They are a Gas Pushing, Green Company![]()
Brought to you by the Nets, A "Green" Company
I'm not a big tv watcher. But every once in a while, I am known to get into it. So the other night while I was watching some tube, I heard an extremely obnoxious infomercial type voice saying, "Its about Free Gas!," over and over and over again. Eventually I had to look up and see who was talking about what type of gas. (Totally could have been a commercial for Gassex!)
But no, it was just a commercial for the good ole Nets. Their new slogan "Its about Free Gas," is in reference to the fact that now when you buy season tickets, you get 10% of what you spent, back in gas card. So I went online and did some undercover work. I had no intention of doing this, but a live chat window popped up. I couldn't help myself.
netsbasketball: Welcome to our live chat support. How may I help you today?
Carina: How does the gas plan work?
netsbasketball: The gas plan works in that if you buy a full season ticket plan we will give you 10% of the total you spent in free gas. An example is if you spend $3,000 on a ticket plan we will give you a gas card for 300 dollars. Is that something you would be interested in?
Carina: Perhaps. Is it to any gas stations or only specific ones?
netsbasketball: It is going to be to a specific gas station. Would you be interested in going over our season ticket plans over the phone?
Carina: Talking on the phone is actually inconvenient for me. Thanks for your help and the information. I have one more question. I am wondering if the Nets have any sort of environmental protection policy. Gas prices are high which is clearly why your business has created this scheme for Nets fans, but does the company have any concern about the larger impacts of such a promotion?
netsbasketball: You there?
Carina: Yes. I'm here. Sorry, I'm at work!
netsbasketball: We are actually the very first green professional sports franchise
Carina: Oh really? Can you tell me more about that?
netsbasketball: On our website there is actually a go green tab that details everything that we do.
Carina: Ahhh. I just looked at it. It says you are carbon neutral. That's great!
So the Nets don't believe there is any conflict with being "green" and promoting gas consumption?
netsbasketball: http://www.netsgogreen.com
Carina: Thanks for your time.
Have a nice day.
netsbasketball: Your not interested in a ticket plan? (That's my favorite part of the chat!)
Carina: Sorry. I have to go now. I might buy one later. But I think that the gas plan is somewhat irresponsible from a "green" company. So I need to think about it some more.
Again, thanks for your time.

Ok. So I lied. I had no intention of buying tickets. But desperate times call for desperate measures. I recommend you all go and have a live chat with the Nets.
